Designer’s Outlet opened in August 2012 at 7175 El Camino Real in Atascadero and closed five months later.

Clothing, shoes and home accessories from Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s are now available in Atascadero.

Designer’s Outlet opened Tuesday at 7175 El Camino Real. The Atascadero location is the Pleasanton-based company’s first store in California, said Fadel Hemdan, district manager. Other stores are expected to open soon in Dublin, Morgan Hill, Salinas and Santa Maria, he said.

“We’re starting with 10 leases right now; the first lease was in Atascadero,” said Hemdan, adding that the 16,000-square-foot space will be leased for about $10,000 a month. A dozen people will be hired to work at the store.

Designer’s Outlet will sell brand-name overstock items from Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, which is owned by Macy’s, at a cheaper price, he said.

Calvin Klein, Anne Klein, Tahari and Nine West are some of the designer labels shoppers will find. The store will stock mostly women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories for the bed, bath and kitchen.

Hemdan said the store will give local shoppers more choice.

“Atascadero is a small town, but I didn’t see a lot of good stores where people might want to shop,” he said. “They have to go to Paso (Robles) or San Luis Obispo.”

Warren Frace, the city’s community development director, said Designer’s Outlet, housed in the space formerly occupied by Tool Outlet, is a welcome addition to the retail landscape.

“The City Council is definitely interested in trying to increase retail opportunities in the city, and we see this as fitting in perfectly,” Frace said.
