DUI checkpoint planned in Atascadero on Friday night

Published: August 22, 2012

Atascadero police will be looking for impaired drivers as they conduct a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in town Friday night.

The DUI/drivers’ license stop will take place between 6 p.m. Friday and 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Officers will check for drivers’ licenses as well as for drug or alcohol impairment.

The police department said it initiates such stops in order to get impaired drivers off the road as well as to heighten general awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Over the past three years, the police department says, it has investigated 39 driving-under-the-influence collisions that led to injury or death.
