Letter: Twice disenfranchised

Published: August 19, 2012

I was very disappointed at the loss of the opportunity to speak in support of the denial of the city of Morro Bay and Cayucos Sanitary District’s permit application to build a new wastewater treatment plant at its current location.

At great expense and logistical effort, a group chartered a bus and was prepared to travel to Santa Cruz so that they could be heard, only to have to undo all that when the hearing was removed from the Aug. 9 meeting agenda less than 24 hours before they were scheduled to leave for Santa Cruz. When I heard that the Morro Bay city manager requested a hearing date for a meeting that will take place in San Diego, I felt twice disenfranchised.

I request that the de novo hearing be conducted at a location on the Central Coast so I can travel a reasonable distance to be heard. Twelve hours total travel time will place a hardship on me.
