Work is underway to build an all-purpose concrete trail on Paso Robles’ east side for public use by the end of the year.

Construction crews are building the 8-foot wide trail just below South River Road between Navajo Avenue and 13th Street by traversing the face of the cliff above the Salinas River.

That stretch of South River Road, a popular north-to-south thoroughfare, presents tight turns for vehicles and no sidewalk.

The roughly $1.1 million federal grant-funded project allows for users to walk, run or bike from Larry Moore Park to North River Road without using surface streets.

The path is designed to connect the existing Larry Moore Park river trail to the existing trailhead at the 13th Street Bridge and Union Road for about 1.3 miles of continuous trail.

There will also be lighting and four benches along the way.

Orcutt-based G. Sosa Construction Inc. is the contractor.
