Two Paso Robles men with gang affiliations were arrested last Saturday after a gun was found in their car, the Sheriff's Office said Friday.

On July 28, San Luis Obispo County sheriff's deputies stopped a GMC pickup truck for traffic violations at the corner of South River Road and Niblick Road. During a search of the pickup, deputies discovered a .22 caliber revolver and ammunition, according to a news release.

The passenger in the truck, Dustin Angel Fernandez, 20, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm in public along with a street gang enhancement. The driver of the truck, Lauro Robert Valenzuela, 27, was arrested on suspicion of violating probation.

“Both suspects are known Norteño gang members living in the city of Paso Robles,” said Tony Cipolla, sheriff’s spokesman, in a news release.

The night before the arrests, the county Sheriff's Gang Task Force assisted the Paso Robles Police Department with the investigation of a shooting that occurred in the 3300 block of Spring Street.

“It's unknown at this time if the suspects were involved in that shooting,” Cipolla said.

The task force continued its investigation and was able to obtain a search warrant for a residence in Paso Robles on Thursday. The task force located a 12 gauge shotgun thought to belong to Fernandez.

Both suspects have been booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail.
