Bread Garden Bakery is moving to Paso Robles from Berkeley

Published: August 2, 2012

A new family-run bakery from the Bay Area is slated to open in downtown Paso Robles this fall.

The Bread Garden Bakery, owned by David Morris, is relocating to 1229 Park St. after operating for 38 years in Berkeley, according to a news release from the city.

The Park Street location, built in 1923, is one of Paso Robles' historic structures. It’s been a bakery, a hair salon and a women's clothing store in its almost nine-decade life span.

The building originally housed a bakery run by the Waer family for close to 70 years, according to the Paso Robles Historical Society.

The Bread Garden’s menu will feature freshly baked goods, including 10 types of bread, 30 different pastries, 20 types of cookies and eight desserts.

Construction on the 2,300 square-foot space should begin next month, with an opening date set for late September, city officials said.

The number of employees that will staff the shop wasn't immediately available.
