Area Roundup: Former Cal Poly wrestler DesRoches joins team as assistant coach

Published: August 1, 2012

Former Cal Poly All-America wrestler Ryan DesRoches has joined the Mustangs program as an assistant coach.

DesRoches was a co-most outstanding wrestler for the 2011-12 season after starting his senior season with a 19-match wining streak, finishing 27-6 overall and 110-37 in his four-year Mustangs career.

A three-time NCAA qualifier, DesRoches finished eighth at 174 pounds in the NCAA National Championships in March.

“Ryan epitomizes what we are looking for in a coach here at Cal Poly,” second-year Mustangs head coach Brendan Buckley said in a news release. “In the one year that I was fortunate enough to work with him as he became an NCAA All-American, I witnessed an ambitious young man with a unrelenting work ethic. Furthermore, he remains one of the strongest leaders I have ever coached.”
