Im sorry, have I missed something? Lauren Gray (Woman may deport herself over policy, July 22) was brought to the United States at the age of 4 by her parents who had work visas, and it has taken her 15 years to realize that she will be considered an illegal on July 31 (My lawyer has informed me that as of midnight on my birthday, I am here illegally)?
(She) will be taken away from her friends, from the town where she said the Pledge of Allegiance, and rooted as a high school cheerleader, and from the state where, at Stephens College, she graduated with distinction in May ...
Her grandparents are naturalized U.S. citizens and must have been aware of their granddaughters status her whole life. Yet Ms. Gray could not find the time to become a naturalized citizen before now?
The woman is a U.S. college graduate of distinction and she finds herself on the brink of deportation? Please tell me why this is a story about immigration policies. Its more of a story about procrastination than anything else.
Somebody hand me a hanky.
