UPDATE: Police investigate report of shots fired in Paso Robles

Published: July 27, 2012

UPDATE 11 p.m.: According to a news release from Paso Robles police, a witness told officers that a Hispanic man standing in the parking lot of J N J's Liquor fired several shots into the air using a rifle or shotgun. The shooter then left the scene in a white car, similar to a Ford Contour, which was driven by someone else.

The store's surveillance cameras did not catch the shooting but did show the white car in the parking lot. Based on that footage and on bullet holes found in the liquor store's wall, investigators believe a different person may have shot at the car in the parking lot, according to the news release.

Paso Robles police, aided by a California Highway Patrol helicopter, searched the area but did not find any suspects.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Paso Robles Police Department at 237-6464.

Original story: Paso Robles police are currently investigating reports of some shots fired around the 3400 block of Spring Street about 3:30 p.m. today.

Details are still being gathered, but initial reports indicate that someone fired shots from either a handgun or a rifle, said police Capt. Robert Burton.

No injuries have been reported.

Now, police are trying to figure out if someone was firing a gun into the air or at a specific target. Investigators have some information to indicate that those involved in the shooting left the scene in a vehicle, but it’s too soon to say if the incident was an actual drive-by shooting, Burton said.
