The Cambria Tourism Board has hired Pismo Beach marketing firm FreshBuzz Media to execute a “Visit Cambria” campaign to help promote tourism and increase business for local hotels and lodging.

The campaign will use online marketing and social media platforms to provide targeted outreach to the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Orange County and local consumers.

Judith Cohen, who founded FreshBuzz in 2010, said the initial contract is valued at about $25,000, which is funded by the Cambria Tourism Board from a portion of revenues from a 2 percent tax on local lodging fees. FreshBuzz has a staff of six.

“Cambria has never had a dedicated marketing effort … this is huge for us to be able to get a municipal like this,” Cohen said.

The Cambria Tourism Board, which formed in early 2011, has seven volunteer members. It has approximately $300,000 at its disposal to promote tourists to stay longer and come more often in the town, according to board member Victoria Moreno. Plans for a new website and print campaign have yet to be finalized.
