The county will test its early warning system sirens Tuesday and Wednesday (July 24 and 25), the Office of Emergency Services has announced.
Called a growl test, the effort allows those in charge of emergencies to check individually each of the 131 sirens throughout the Diablo Canyon Emergency Planning Zone. Each test will last a few seconds.
Early warnings sirens were installed as a condition of allowing the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. They cover from Cayucos to the Nipomo Mesa, and can be activated for any major emergency.
