Because of an 11 p.m. curfew, the San Luis Obispo Blues and Santa Barbara Foresters stopped their summer collegiate baseball game Wednesday night tied 9-9 after 12 completed innings and more than four hours of action at SLO Stadium.

The showdown between two of the top California Collegiate League teams will continue today at 6 p.m., followed by the scheduled finale of the three-game series at SLO Stadium.

The Blues (26-12, 15-8 CCL) own a half-game lead over the Foresters (24-12, 14-8 CCL) in the league standings after a 5-3 win on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the Blues trailed 9-7 entering the ninth inning.

Alex Detz, a former Mission Prep and Cuesta College standout who’s headed to Mississippi State, began the rally with a chopper to the first base side. He advanced to third on a single by Keegan Dale, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Peters. Austin Grisham then singled in the tying run.

The Blues had a chance to win with Grisham on second. But Nick Flair — who had already collected four hits and drove in a run by then — popped up to right field to end the rally.

Detz once again made it interesting in the 11th, when he advanced to second on a single and a stolen base. But the next two San Luis Obispo batters struck out and popped out.

San Luis Obispo’s Parker Ray came in to close, throwing six strikeouts in three innings. The Blues used six different pitchers, with John Tiedemann starting. He went 3 2⁄3 innings with four strikeouts and allowed five runs — four of them earned.

The Foresters scored three runs on four hits and an error to start the game with a 3-0 lead.

The Blues responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to an RBI single by Taylor Anderson and a run by Grisham to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Anderson and Brandon Carr each had an RBI hit to tie the score at 4 in the third. But the Foresters scored three more runs in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead.

San Luis Obispo scored a run apiece in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings before tying it in the ninth.
