Children at the California Mid-State Fair participated in the laughter-inducing Mutton Bustin’ contest Wednesday.

Kids clutch sheep and try to hold on the longest, to the delight of parents and fans.

The children wear helmets for protection in what event organizer Tommy G. Productions calls an “extreme sport” for kids.

The event continues daily at the fair, and winners of each round will compete in a final competition.
