Letter: SOS from Avila

Published: July 18, 2012

Please help us save our historical school house.

The residents of Avila Beach battled bureaucracy to save our town in 1999 from oblivion.

Now we are battling to save our only remaining historical building, our school house, from becoming a bed and breakfast by Shear Edge Developers.

Avila Beach needs this historical school house so those visiting, as well as old and new residents, can go to relax and learn the history of our community.

Residents formed a group known as SOS (Save our School House). They have worked diligently with the developers agreeing to a lot split so their plans to build apartments could go forward, but the historical school house and the lot it sits on is a continuing frustration to the locals and the SOS group.

If anyone can help us with ideas or cash, please contact me at 595-9551 as there is an account set up with the Avila Beach Foundation to help restore the school when an agreement can be reached with Shear Edge.
