A hearing in San Luis Obispo Superior Court was held Tuesday to address where murder suspect John Wesley Barrett will be housed as he awaits his trial, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Barrett, 42, has a developmental disability, and a low IQ, according to some court documents, and requires special attention. He currently ruled incompetent to stand trial.

He’s one of four people accused in the murder of Robert Kenichi Uyeno, who was found lying face down in his room at the Farmhouse Motel in Paso Robles on Aug. 22 with his throat slashed.

Another of the four — Alberto Fierros — has pleaded no contest to first degree murder and faces 25 years to life in state prison at his sentencing on Aug. 28, prosecutors said. He will have to serve 25 years before he’s eligible for parole.

The two others, Jennifer Velten and Tabatha Brown, have pleaded not guilty to murder and their cases are pending.

Barrett could be housed within the next week, though a court hearing was set for Aug. 15 before Judge John Trice to follow up on the situation.

Barrett currently is being held in the San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail.
