The 121st Annual Santa Barbara County Fair wrapped up last weekend with record attendance, fair organizers announced this week.
According to a news release, 160,998 people attended the five-day fair from July 11 through 15 at the Santa Maria Fairpark, up 10 percent from last years total.
Also, preliminary figures indicate more than $2.4 million was brought in during the junior livestock auction.
Over the next year, Fairpark officials hope to complete a portion of their master plan for the event center, which includes new barns in the livestock area.
A group of community leaders recently formed the Santa Maria Fairpark Foundation, previously called Friends of the Fairpark. The foundation is now working on fundraising plans for the barn project, according to the news release.
