Letter: Won’t vote for tax

Published: July 16, 2012

So the state politicians passed the high-speed rail, even though they have not finished the state budget and don’t have the money for the rail. They only passed enough of the budget to keep their paychecks coming in.

Just a few years ago, we the people voted to let the Indian casinos increase in size. In return, they would pay taxes on them. The money was supposed to pay down/off the California debt. What happened?

In 2004, voters approved Proposition 63, which levied a 1 percent tax on millionaires to expand mental health services. The official ballot told us “how the money would be spent.” One of the co-authors now says funding has not been spent completely on treatment.

Now, Gov. Jerry Brown states that if we pass his tax increase and sales tax increase (for the schools, again) he will negotiate with state employees to cut pension costs.

Well, I do not believe him. I will not vote for it. Budget amendments screwed up the school funding and will again.
