The California Department of Transportation has a new director for its Central Coast operations.
Caltrans veteran Timothy Gubbins will oversee all department functions in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
A licensed civil engineer, Gubbins has more than 24 years with Caltrans, serving in a variety of engineering and management positions, including construction and design.
Prior to being appointed District 5 director, he was deputy district director for program project management for 11 years.
Gubbins graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's of science degree in civil engineering.
He said he and his staff are dedicated to improving transportation mobility and safety for everyone who travels the Central Coast.
