The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking two people who broke into cars at the Avila Beach Athletic Club last month, stole credit cards from wallets left in the vehicles, and bought thousands of dollars of merchandise using the cards.

The incidents occurred June 22, according to a news release sent out Thursday.

The thieves used the cards to buy a $2,000 laptop and other items from the Mac Superstore in San Luis Obispo, as well $7,000 in gift cards at the San Luis Obispo Target store.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public’s help in trying to find the thieves.

Sheriff's officials also are warning residents to not leave valuables in their cars.
