Taylor Anderson helped open the game up with a two-run triple in the third inning, and the San Luis Obispo Blues stayed in control the rest of the way to beat the Santa Maria Packers 10-3 on Friday night in a summer collegiate baseball game at the 12th Annual Rawlings California Cup at SLO Stadium.
Anderson’s triple gave the Blues (22-10) a 3-0 lead. San Luis Obispo then scored seven more runs in the next four innings, including a three-run seventh.
Keegan Dale went 3 for 6 with two RBI, Nick Flair was 3 for 5 with two RBI, and both Bryan Peters and Cody Dufrene finished with two RBI for the Blues.
San Luis Obispo’s Will Maddox went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Will Cox got the win after throwing six innings with six strikeouts.
The Blues finished with 14 of the game’s 25 hits.
San Luis Obispo Rattlers 11, Top Speed Baseball 8
In Santa Rosa, the Rattlers overcame giving up six runs in the bottom of the first inning and rallied to win.
Rattlers starting pitcher David Murillo gave up six runs and seven hits in the first inning but settled down after that, giving up only three hits the rest of the way to pitch six innings and earn the win.
San Luis Obispo (22-12) trailed 6-1 after one inning but chipped away with two runs in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the eight to earn the win.
Steven Lozier led the Rattlers’ 12-hit attack by going 3 for 5 with two doubles, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored.
Scott Shields was 2 for 5, and Marc Flores had a double.
Griffin Paul and Bret Haringa combined to pitch three perfect innings in relief for the Rattlers.
North County Indians 18, Salinas Tomahawks 4
The Indians (17-5) were trailing 4-2 before scoring nine runs in the fifth inning in a summer collegiate baseball game at home to earn their first win in four games.
Tyler Kollmann was a triple short of the cycle, finishing with four RBI and scoring four times. He also reached base five out of his six plate appearances.
Cole Mauter got the win on the mound for the Indians after striking out four, allowing one run and walking one in four innings.
