Former Cal Poly basketball player Amaurys Fermin is one win away from going to the Olympics with the Dominican Republic team.
The Dominican Republic upset Macedonia 86-76, and Lithuania beat Puerto Rico 76-72 to advance to the semifinals in the Olympic basketball qualifying tournament.
Francisco Garcia scored 28 points to lead the Dominican Republic, and Lester McCalebb had 35 for Macedonia.
Linas Kleiza and Mantas Kalnietis each had 14 for Lithuania, and Sarunas Jasikevicius added 11.
The Dominican Republic will play Lithuania in one semifinal today.
The top three teams in the tournament will fill the final berths for the London Olympics. The semifinal losers will play Sunday for the final spot.
In other games, Vitaliy Fridzon scored 18 points and Russia beat Angola 80-65. Alexander Kaun added 17 points for Russia, which will face Nigeria in the semifinals. Nigeria beat Greece 80-79, with Ade Dagunduro scoring the last five points, including two free throws in the final three seconds. Ike Diogu led Nigeria with 17 points.
