A 4-year-old boy struck by an SUV near Port San Luis on Thursday has been transferred from Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara for treatment of major injuries.
The California Highway Patrol said that at 4:40 p.m., the boy ran into traffic on Avila Beach Drive near the entrance to Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. He was struck by a Mercedes GLK driven by a 67-year-old woman from Arroyo Grande. After initial treatment at Sierra Vista, the boy was flown by medical helicopter to Cottage Hospital.
The boy is from Santa Maria, the CHP said.
The Arroyo Grande woman was not hurt as result of the collision. Neither she nor the boy were identified by the CHP.
