San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority

This countywide bus system provides scheduled service seven days a week to and from most communities in San Luis Obispo County and to Santa Maria. RTA serves such areas as Cal Poly, Cuesta College, California Men’s Colony and Hearst Castle.

Fares depend on distance traveled. Contact RTA at 541-2228, 781-4472, or call Rideshare at 511 or visit rideshare.org for descriptions of passes and pricing. Children ages 5 and under ride free with an adult. Visit www.slorta.org for information and locations where RTA passes can be purchased.

Atascadero Transit

Operates the hourly Monday through Friday El Camino Shuttle from Paloma Park in Atascadero on a fixed-route loop to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, as well as the Saturday Traveler fixed-route service and a door-to-door dial-a-ride.

Paso Express

Paso Express operates within the city of Paso Robles on Mondays through Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., except major holidays.

SLO Transit

SLO Transit provides seven fixed transit routes within San Luis Obispo city limits. Transfers are free between SLO Transit routes.

Thursday through Sunday, a trolley service in the downtown area operates with a cash-only, 25-cent fare.

Cal Poly students and faculty ride for free with university identification. A free monthly Downtown Access Pass is available for employees working in the downtown parking district with information available at the city Public Works Department, 919 Palm St., San Luis Obispo. Seven-, five-, three- and one-day passes are sold for exact fare on each bus. Information: 511 or 541-1877 or www.rideshare.org.

Santa Maria Area Transit

San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority buses make connections with SMAT at the Santa Maria Town Center mall every hour or half-hour. Information: 541-2228 for travel between SLO County and Santa Maria; 928-5624 for service within Santa Maria or http://www.ci.santa-maria.ca.us/3075.html.

South County Area Transit

This service offers bus routes serving the communities of Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Oceano, Pismo Beach and Shell Beach. One child 5 and under can ride free with each fare-paying adult. For information, call 541-2228 or visit www.slorta.org.

Avila Beach Trolley

Operated by RTA, this free trolley takes riders from the Pismo Premium Outlets in Pismo Beach to Avila Beach and Port San Luis. During the summer, the trolley operates Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with hours extending to 8:20 p.m. on Friday farmers market nights at Avila Beach. During the spring, fall and winter, the trolley runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 541-2228.

North Coast

The Cambria Village Trolley offers free transportation through the community Thursdays through Mondays in the summer and Fridays through Mondays the rest of the year. Fares: Free. For more information, call 541-2228.

Morro Bay Transit operates a fixed route, Call-A-Ride and a trolley service. Morro Bay Trolley operates three routes Fridays through Mondays between Memorial Day and Labor Day and on weekends only between Labor Day and the first weekend in October. For more information, call 772-2744 weekdays between 8 and 10 a.m.

Ride-On

Ride-On Transportation operates senior shuttles in the following areas from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

• South County: Tuesdays and Thursdays

• North County: Mondays and Wednesdays

• North Coast: Mondays and Wednesdays

• Los Osos: Fridays

• San Luis Obispo: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays

• Five Cities: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

Dial-A-Ride

The door-to-door service operates within the communities of Atascadero, Baywood Park, Cambria, Los Osos, Morro Bay, Nipomo and Paso Robles. Operating hours vary. You must call ahead to reserve a ride.

Runabout

This countywide program provides service to riders certified under the American Disabilities Act of 1990 who are unable to use the RTA fixed route bus service. The service operates seven days a week and includes early morning and late evening service dependent on date, time and route of travel. All vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts and mobility aids (walkers, canes and crutches) are accommodated. Call 541-2544 for reservations.
