More than nine out of 10 graduates from Cal Poly’s Class of 2011 are either employed or in graduate school, according to a survey conducted by the university’s Career Services Office.
Among 2010-11 graduates, 68 percent of respondents said they’re employed full time, and 18 percent said they are in grad school. An additional 5 percent said they’re employed part time.
Of the 4,470 students who graduated in 2010-11, 54 percent — 2,419 graduates — responded to the annual survey.
The 2010-11 graduates who took the survey showed a 3 percent increase in obtaining full-time employment over the 2009-10 class, when 65 percent reported being employed full time, and an additional 2 percentage points over the 2008-09 class, when the figure was 63 percent.
Of the respondents who reported being employed in the survey, 91 percent said they’re in a job either “directly related” (67 percent) or “somewhat related” (24 percent) to their Cal Poly degree.
A recent national survey conducted by Rutgers University interviewed graduates of four-year universities between the years of 2006 and 2011.
In that survey, as of April, 51 percent were working full time, 20 percent were attending graduate or professional school and 12 percent were either unemployed or employed part time and looking for full-time work.
And 65 percent of the respondents to the Rutgers survey said their work was somewhat or directly related to their majors.
