Public invited to school meeting

Tonight at 7, the San Miguel School District Board will hold a public hearing and special meeting in the Lillian Larsen School Library, 1601 L St.

Topics for the public hearing are: The 2012-2013 budget and the ad policy on student use of technology. Also on the agenda is the Almond Acres Charter Academy memorandum of understanding and placement of portable buildings. Part of that discussion will include a revised traffic plan on the Lillian Larsen campus.

Public input is encouraged and welcome.

San Miguel volunteer firemen are selling safe and sane fireworks at their stand next to the fire station in downtown.

The stand will open at noon on Saturday. Sunday through Tuesday, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday night, they’ll stay open until midnight. Safe and sane fireworks are allowed in the unincorporated areas of the county. Proceeds benefit the volunteers.

Dos Padres Mexican Food and Steakhouse at 340 14th St. (behind HCH) is open and serving a delicious, expanded menu, which now includes steak and flan.

Evodio and Maria Martinez have brightly repainted the inside. There is a large room available for parties. Starting tomorrow, they will have karaoke every Friday starting at 7 p.m.

They are open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, they’re open until 11 p.m.

The San Miguel Lions Club is sponsoring free swimming for San Miguel children on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They are also funding the swimmer’s first lessons.

Funding comes from their popular fish and chicken dinners and the generosity of their supporters. Thank you everyone!
