The San Luis Obispo Blues suffered their second loss in three games after falling 8-4 to the Orange County Pioneers at SLO Stadium on Tuesday night in a summer collegiate baseball game.

San Luis Obispo scored two runs apiece in the fifth and seventh innings and left 10 runners stranded. Matt Shortall was the only Blues player with multiple hits as he went 2 for 4 with one RBI.

The Pioneers got homers from Darrell Miller and Kameron Walker in the fifth and seventh to keep control of the game with a 7-2 lead.

Austin O’Neal finished 3 for 5 with a double, and two runs scored and the Orange County pitching staff threw seven shutout innings.

Before Tuesday’s loss, the Blues fell 4-3 at home to the MLB Academy Barons in the finale of their three-game series on Sunday and then beat the Conejo Oaks 11-6 on Monday.

Trevor Nathanson started the two-out rally with a base hit. That was followed by Marc Flores’ pinch-hit single to set up the stage for Shields, who also got a two-out go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning to help San Luis Obispo in a win over the San Francisco Seals on Monday.

Nathanson also homered, and Marco Murillo was 2 for 5 with a double. The Rattlers got 5 2⁄3 scoreless innings with James Lagorio throwing 3 2⁄3 innings with one hit and three strikeouts.

The Rattlers gave up two hits in those 5 2⁄3 innings of relief.
