The San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs Office Search and Rescue Team is searching for evidence along southbound Highway 101 between San Luis Obispo and Nipomo.
According to a news release, sheriffs officials would not disclose what the team is searching for to protect the integrity of an ongoing case.
The team is working at the request of the Sheriffs Office detectives unit. The search is anticipated to last for several days, though not consecutively.
The searches are scheduled to have the least amount of impact on traffic congestion in the area, according to the news release.
