EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been edited to reflect the correct direction of Los Osos Valley Road where work is scheduled to take place.
Bike lane and pedestrian improvements along westbound Los Osos Valley Road at the Oceanaire Drive and Laguna Lane intersections will begin on Monday.
The new bike and pedestrian path is intended to improve bicycle and pedestrian connectivity between nearby neighborhoods and the bike lanes leading to Laguna Middle School.
In addition to increasing safety, city officials hope the dedicated bike path will encourage more children to ride their bikes to school.
Workers will be out from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays working on the project. Periodic lane closures will occur. The project is expected to be done by Aug. 20.
Improvements include widening the sidewalk along westbound Los Osos Valley Road to accommodate the bicycle and pedestrian path.
Three westbound lanes from Madonna Road to Oceanaire Drive will also be restriped.
The project is being funded by a Safe Routes for School federal grant.
