Sheriff’s auction: Helps send kids to camp

Published: June 21, 2012

Winning bidders in the Sheriff’s auction Friday, June 15, pose for a photo after the fundraiser at Rabobank in Cambria. Proceeds from the event will help send San Simeon and Cambria children to summer camp at the YMCA program in Cambria. Two bidders competed fiercely for the headline auction item, an afternoon with county Sheriff Ian Parkinson, including a tour of the jail, shooting range, communication center and special vehicles and simulators. It was decided by consensus — with the sheriff’s consent — to sell off two afternoons, so both bidders could win and the children would too. Cindy Bainbridge of Cambria, center right above, and Brian Moriarity of Cayucos, far right, each paid $400. Bainbridge also won the auction for a patrol ridealong with Senior Deputy Todd Stebb, Cambria’s resident deputy, at left. Retired Undersheriff Martin Basti, second from left, conducted the auction. Parkinson had to leave before he was auctioned off.
