Cody Dufrene went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBI, and John Tiedemann pitched five shutout innings to help lead the San Luis Obispo Blues to a 4-1 road win over the Santa Barbara Foresters in a California Collegiate League baseball game Tuesday night.

The victory not only extends the Blues’ winning streak to nine games but also puts San Luis Obispo (12-4, 7-2 CCL) in first place with the Foresters (10-6, 5-2) in the league standings as the two teams opened a three-game series.

The Blues led 2-0 after the second inning before adding two more in the seventh to pull away.

Austin Grisham went 2 for 4 and scored twice, and Matt Shortall and Bryan Peters each had a triple.

Besides Tiedemann (3-0), the Blues used three other pitchers who combined to allow one run and three hits.

After the Foresters scored in the seventh, Daniel Mengden came in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

“We had solid pitching all the way through,” Blues manager Chal Fanning said. “That’s one of the main reasons why we won, and we had timely hitting.”

RATTLERS 15, REDS 5

Michael Nieporte was a triple short of a cycle in leading the San Luis Obispo Rattlers to a win over the Santa Maria Reds in a summer collegiate baseball game at SLO Stadium.

Nieporte also finished with three RBI and two runs scored for the Rattlers (13-6), who jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a six-run third inning. San Luis Obispo added nine more runs in the final five innings.

San Luis Obispo’s Steven Lozier also homered to go with a triple. Trevor Nathanson was 3 for 5 with a triple, and Charlie Sharrer had two singles and three runs scored. Josh Wise got the win on the mound for the Rattlers after striking out three and giving up two hits in five innings.
