Halcyon woman takes Rick Searcy's spot on Oceano CSD board

Published: June 19, 2012

Karen White has been appointed to the Oceano Community Services District’s Board of Directors.

White, a former journalist who lives in Halcyon, was chosen unanimously by the board with a 4-0 vote from a group of four candidates, said Tom Geaslen, the district’s general manager.

White replaces Rick Searcy, who resigned from his position on the board in May, citing medical conditions after a car crash on Highway 101.

In her letter of intent to serve on the board, White said she has knowledge of the district’s policies and procedures and has longtime relationships with local elected officials, including 4th district supervisor Paul Teixeira, California state Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian, and U.S. Rep. Lois Capps.

“I have been going to the meetings, and I take my own notes,” White said. “I felt like I could slide right in.”

White’s term will end in November. She said she’s open to running for the seat in the election if she feels she’s making contributions.

“She is a pillar of our community and has been active in our local politics and CSD affairs for a long time,” said OCSD board president Matt Guerrero. “She is well-respected, and I am honored to serve with her.”
