Gunmen try to rob person at Paso Robles hotel, police say

Published: June 19, 2012

Two men armed with guns confronted a guest in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Express in Paso Robles this morning but fled before police arrived.

According to Lt. Tim Murphy of the Paso Robles Police Department, multiple 911 calls were made to the police at 1:51 a.m. reporting an armed robbery at the hotel at 2455 Riverside Ave.

One of the robbers was armed with a shotgun, while the other held a handgun, the callers said.

The men were described as being in their 20s, and wore masks, gloves and hooded sweatshirts to conceal their identities, Murphy said. They were about 6 feet tall and weighed 200 pounds.

One suspect ordered the guest back to his room to collect his valuables, while the other jumped over the front desk to find the clerk, explained Murphy. For some reason, the suspects fled before police arrived.

Neither victim was injured or suffered any financial loss, said Murphy.

Anyone with information that might help police find the suspects can call Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP (549-7867); submit a tip online by going to http://www.slotips.org; or text "slotips" and a message to CRIMES (or 274637). People giving tips can stay anonymous. Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to arrest and conviction.
