Templeton High graduate Savannah Camacho finished eighth Saturday in the women’s 800-meter run at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Indiana University.

The junior meet is for anyone 19 and younger. The meet is a qualifier for the IAAF World Junior Championships next month in Barcelona, Spain.

Camacho, who is headed to Oklahoma State for college, finished in 2 minutes, 11.74 seconds Saturday. The winner was Ajee Wilson, who ran 2:04.86. The top four finishers all bettered the world championships qualifying standard of 2:09.19, a time Camacho has bettered during her career.

Camacho’s mother, Bonita, said in an email that her daughter has been plagued by a virus since the beginning of the month.

On Friday, Arroyo Grande High’s Madison Jacobs finished 18th in the women’s discus with a throw of 131 feet, 2 inches, off her best of 155-9 set in finishing second at the California state meet earlier this month.

Jacobs will be a senior at Arroyo Grande. Shelbi Vaughn set a meet record of 198-9 in winning the event. The top 10 finishers all bettered the world championships qualifying standard of 155-10.
