San Luis Obispo is in the running for yet another national title, that of friendliest small town in America.
Its part of the Best Small Towns in America competition, sponsored by USA Today and map publishing company Rand McNally.
Five other places are vying with San Luis Obispo for the friendliest title: Cloudcroft, N.M.; College Station, Texas; Frisco, Texas; Joplin, Mo.; and Murray, Ky.
They will be judged by a team of amateur travelers picked by Rand McNally. The travelers will blog about their visits to each, starting Friday.
The contest had 650 applicants, with 30 cities picked to compete in one of five categories. Besides friendliest, cities are vying for most patriotic, most beautiful, best for food and most fun.
