Driver suspected of DUI after crash in Cambria that injured child

Published: June 11, 2012

Alcohol was a factor in a crash in Cambria on Sunday night that resulted in injuries to the 35-year-old female driver and a 5-year-old child, a neighborhood power outage and the arrest of the driver, according to a CHP report.

Elizabeth S. Perry of San Luis Obispo was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Heritage High Roof at a high rate of speed on Ardath Drive just before 11 p.m. when she drove straight through a curve and into a power pole just east of Haddon Drive, the CHP said.

Both occupants were taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. Perry suffered a fractured spine. The child, who had what were described as moderate injuries, was transferred to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.

Perry was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of felony child endangerment and driving under the influence in an accident that caused injury. She was immediately released back into the hospital’s custody because of her injuries.
