Oceano Community Services District board member Rick Searcy resigned Wednesday, citing medical conditions in a letter he wrote Sunday, but was read by board President Matthew Guerrero.

Searcy was cited on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence last week after he was involved in a crash along Highway 101. Searcy, 59, was driving north on the freeway just north of Spyglass Drive about 8:30 p.m. May 17 when his Ford F-250 pickup drifted into the dirt center median, according to CHP.

Searcy overcorrected, causing the truck to roll twice before coming to rest in the right lane. He was cited and then treated at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo for major injuries. He was discharged from the hospital Friday.

“It has been a great pleasure to have the opportunity to work and serve the people of Oceano,” Searcy wrote in a letter read at Wednesday's district board meeting. “When my health will allow, I will also contribute to Oceano as much as possible.”

Searcy was appointed to a vacant position on the Oceano Community Services District board in May 2011. He was first elected to the board in the early 1980s and most recently served on the board from December 2000 to 2004.
