Walmart freedoms
The city of Atascadero has released a revised Environmental Impact Report (EIR). It is long past time to allow Walmart to exercise its private property rights and build a store on its own property. Walmart has agreed to cover the cost of their portion of the EIR. The taxpayers of this fine city should pick up the rest of the costs as we will benefit from the changes.
Those of us who believe in freedom for all believe those who own, work or shop at Walmart should have the same freedoms the rest of us have. A fundamental freedom is private property rights.

Rental responsibility
Gordon Mullin believes it is unfair to fine landlords for the disruptive actions of their tenants (Viewpoint, April 30). Gordon doesnt include in his list of ludicrous examples that the landlords just charge an additional deposit, over and above the normal security deposit, to any renters they consider at risk of getting them fined. So the lawabiding resident of the neighborhood still must put up with disruptions to their peace by rowdy tenants and an unsympathetic nonresident investor, profit being the investors only motive not community tranquility.
For a landlord who does not want to screen prospective tenants and lay down the law that they will not stand for unruly behavior disrupting the neighborhood, there should be a real penalty that will actually hurt in the pocketbook.
After the second fine the tenants should be given an eviction notice and the landlords should lose their business license, providing they have one, and not be allowed to rent out their property for a year. Now thats a penalty that is fair to the victims, the residents who have to put up with crude and inconsiderate tenants and landlords.

Likes Hills advocacy
I am pleased to support Supervisor Adam Hill for re-election as he has been a strong advocate for protecting our waterways and our air from pollution. He also has been part of a board that has put in place smart land use policies to stem the spread of sprawl and to protect our precious resources. This includes stabilizing financial resources to control spending by adopting a two-tier pension plan for the county.
I especially appreciate his diligent efforts to help the homeless, and also to reduce homelessness.
If, like me, you love living here, then join me in voting for Adam Hill.
