A trial is set to begin May 7 for Jeremiah Leo Hernandez, who is suspected of participating in a cross burning in Arroyo Grande last year, according to lawyers involved with the case.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to charges of arson, terrorism in the form of a cross burning, terrorism in the form of arson targeting a person’s race, and conspiracy to commit a crime, along with hate crime enhancements.

Three others accused of the same crimes have entered no contest pleas to some of the charges they faced.

Jason Kahn pleaded no contest to arson and the two terrorism charges, along with hate crime enhancements, and faces 12 years in state prison.

Sara Matheny and William Soto pleaded no contest to arson and terrorism in the form of cross burning, and hate crime enhancements. They each face five years in state prison.

The sentencing for Kahn, Matheny and Soto is scheduled for May 21.
