Cal Poly women's golf team remains in sixth place at Big West Championships

Despite improving its team score by 11 strokes, the Cal Poly women’s golf team continues to sit in sixth place out of seven teams after carding a 309 in the second round of the Big West Conference Championships at San Luis Obispo Country Club on Monday.

The Mustangs own a 629 total entering today’s final round of the three-day, 54-hole event.

On Sunday, Cal Poly opened the tournament with a 320.

Asia Adell, the Mustangs’ top performer, fired a 78 to go along with her first-day score of 77 for a 155 total, enough for a 12th-place tie with five other golfers. She had six bogeys, two birdies and a double-bogey in her round Monday.

Cal Poly’s Morgan Thomas is in 22nd with a 157, Caitlin Farley is 26th with a 159 and Kirsten Locke and Taylor Yoshitake are both in 30th with 160s.

UC Davis moved up from the runner-up position to first place in the team standings with a 600, followed by UC Irvine’s 602 and Long Beach State’s 611. Cal State Fullerton (613) and Cal State Northridge (621) rounded out the top five.

UC Davis’ Bev Vatananugulkit is the individual leader with a 147.
