The Cal Poly mens basketball team added more height to its frontcourt following Mondays announcement that 6-foot-8 forward Zach Gordon of Archbishop Murphy High in Everett, Wash., signed with the Mustangs for the 2012-13 season.
Last season, Gordon averaged 13.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game, enough to earn All-Cascade Conference second-team honors. His numbers came despite suffering a knee injury in the summer.
Gordon is the fourth Cal Poly signee who is 6-7 or taller, joining 6-8 Brian Bennett of Plainfield East in Plainfield, Ill., 6-8 Josh Hall of St. Johns NW Military Academy of Brush Prairie, Wash., and 6-7 Zach Allmon of Mission Prep.
Zach (Gordon) has the athletic ability and energy to help us immediately next season, Cal Poly coach Joe Callero said in a news release. His academic profile and work ethic are a perfect fit and will complement our other three fall signings. He can play the four or five spot and is highly competitive. Zach is a real sleeper and steal.
