A Basque restaurant is set to open Monday at the site of what some had considered a landmark restaurant in Shell Beach.
Alphys Basque Chateau has moved into the building that was home to the Old Vienna German restaurant for four decades.
The family-style restaurant is the latest addition to the Alphys business operations on the Central Coast.
Other businesses include Alphys Broiler and Alphys Coffee House, both in Arroyo Grande, and Alphys Adobe Grill in Pismo Beach.
Alphys Basque Chateau will serve authentic Basque dishes and have a full bar with a bar menu.
The cuisine comes from the Basque region, which occupies an area in and around the Pyrenees mountains on the border separating France and Spain.
In keeping with Basque restaurant traditions, all entrees are served family style with fresh bread, Basque soup, salad, beans and Spanish salsa. Entrees include lamb, steak, chicken, pork and seafood dishes.
