Nighttime construction will begin Monday on Highway 101 at the Willow Road interchange project in Nipomo and will last through Thursday night, as the county continues to prepare the interchange for eventual use.
The Department of Public Works says Granite Construction will be working on the freeway between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., preparing the roadway for moving southbound traffic off the median detour onto the new southbound highway bridge. The inside lanes will be closed during this nighttime schedule.
The county said drivers should expect 10-minute delays.
The work is part of the Willow Road extension project. The county expects to have Willow Road and the interchange work open to traffic by the end of this year.
In the works for years, the Willow Road interchange and extension are designed to provide new access across the Nipomo Mesa for motorists and emergency vehicles, as well as reduce congestion at Tefft Street.
