UPDATE 8:45 p.m.: The search for a possible missing paraglider near the Pismo Beach pier has nearly ended, and no one has been found, a Cal Fire dispatcher said about 8:35 p.m.
One helicopter from the U.S. Coast Guard's Morro Bay station will continue to search for another 45 minutes. It was unclear whether or not anyone was missing.
A Pismo Beach police dispatcher said at 8 p.m. the department had not received any missing persons reports today.
Original story: Cal Fire, CHP and other agencies are searching the ocean near the Pismo Beach pier after receiving a report that a paraglider possibly went down in the area.
Cal Fire officials talked to a bystander about 5:25 p.m. who reported seeing a paraglider go down about 500 yards south and 200 yards west of the pier.
Officials are trying to determine whether the report is legitimate. Currently, a CHP airplane, a Port San Luis Harbor patrol boat, two Cal Fire rescue watercraft and the U.S. Coast Guard from the Morro Bay station are responding.
