Luis Wine Bar opens on Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo

Published: March 19, 2012

Luis Wine Bar, San Luis Obispo’s newest wine bar, is now open for business. Located at 1021 Higuera St. between Santa Rosa and Osos streets, the enterprise is the brainchild of former Cal Poly student Vanessa North.

After several years working in San Francisco’s tech industry, North decided to leave her job, return to the Central Coast and pursue her dream of owning her own business.

“I modeled it after the wine bars I visited in San Francisco. I felt like it was something San Luis Obispo didn’t have,” North said of the 1,900-square-foot space.

The building is open and airy. Sliding windows give customers the feel of being outside while sipping wines from San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Monterey counties.

Luis Wine Bar also offers craft beers on tap from Lost Abbey, Anchor Steam, Abita and Green Flash. Customers can choose from about 30 bottled beers as well.

The menu at Luis Wine Bar offers “Lite Bites,” such as desserts, cheeses and veggie plates with various dips.

North did not get into details about how much she has invested in the business.
