  Morro Bay police arrested a Morro Bay man on suspicion of burglary-related offenses Wednesday after being led to his home by a tip and allegedly finding computers, televisions, and other items taken in recent burglaries there.

  Eli Campbell Martin, 23, has been arrested specifically on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.

  According to a news release from the Morro Bay Police Department, detectives were working on recent burglaries when they “received information regarding a possible suspect” who lived on the 2000 block of Bayview Avenue.

  Investigators are still trying to learn more about the man who died when his Mercedes-Benz veered head-on into a bus, knocking the bus into the Morro Bay Estuary on April 25.

  The car, headed north toward Morro Bay on South Bay Boulevard, drifted into the southbound lane. Its driver, the car’s sole occupant, was killed in the collision. The bus driver was taken to the hospital, treated and released. Some of the three bus passengers had minor injuries.

  A CHP investigator said drugs or alcohol are not suspected to have played a role in the crash, but a toxicology test will be done. The Sheriff’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for today.

  Truth about ID laws

  President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder have been accused of trying to “scare up some votes” by opposing the voter suppression movement by the Republican right wing across the nation in this election year. Here are the facts to counter the half-truths and outright lies used to justify the new voter ID laws passed in many Republican run states.

  First, The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, ACORN, never committed “voter fraud” as the right wing suggests. A few of their paid registration form gatherers submitted their material, ACORN checked the forms, “tagged” the ones found fraudulent and submitted them all as required by law. The Republican propaganda machine called this Democrats’ “massive fraud and corrupt practices.”

  Change with times

  Retail businesses on the Central Coast must move into the 21st century to survive. In the past six months, I have gone to local establishments to buy a filter for my vacuum, a filter for my icemaker and a miter gauge for my table saw. In each instance, the sales clerk told me they did not have the part, suggesting I go to the manufacturer’s website to order it.

  In each of these instances, I went to Amazon.com, easily found the part I wanted, ordered it and had it in hand within a few days! I didn’t waste gas and time searching for the part locally — with the likely outcome of not finding it.
