A Lillian Larsen Elementary part-time afterschool aide was fired after she was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a minor, according to San Miguel school district Superintendent Curt Dubost.
In an email to The Tribune on Wednesday, Dubost said that on Jan. 27, Sarah Elizabeth Drown, 20, was first put on unpaid leave in the school office, and then fired after she was arrested off-campus later that day.
A letter from Dubost to parents dated Jan. 30 had stated that Drown has been placed on leave and has been directed not to be on the grounds of any of the schools, and she is prohibited from contacting students, parents or staff members.
The letter also explained how district officials initiated an investigation of Drown on Jan. 27, and then notified the San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs Office. It stated that Drown was arrested, but did not mention the allegations against her.
Drown was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail that afternoon on suspicion of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor who is more than three years younger than the perpetrator.
She has since been released on $20,000 bail, and has pleaded not guilty to the charges in San Luis Obispo Superior Court.
