The Cuesta College softball team swept a doubleheader at West Hills on Thursday, defeating the Falcons 9-0 in the first game before holding on for a 16-13 win in the second game.
In the opener, starting pitcher and Arroyo Grande High graduate Danika Gaslan pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Cougars (2-4) to their first win of the season.
Laura Hanes went 5 for 5 with a double, and Kelly Lockwood was 3 for 4 with a double for Cuesta.
The nightcap wasnt as easy for the Cougars, who gave up six runs in the first inning and traile 8-2 after the second inning.
Then the Cuesta bats came alive, with Hanes again going 5 for 5 at the with a double, a triple, three RBI and three runs scored. Lockwood was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
Leading 16-9 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Gaslan, pitching in her second relief appearance of the game, gave up four runs before closing out the game and earning her second win of the afternoon.
