Prep Roundup: Arroyo Grande wraps up regular season with 90th straight PAC 7 girls water polo win

Arroyo Grande High defeated St. Joseph 13-2 in its regular season finale Thursday to wrap up another perfect PAC 7 girls water polo campaign.

The Eagles (23-5, 12-0) finished their season undefeated in PAC 7 play, and the win also marked their 90th consecutive PAC 7 victory. Arroyo Grande has won nine straight league titles.

“It was a good season for the girls and we played very well,” Eagles coach Steven Allen said. “We played with a lot of depth throughout the season and we are looking forward to the playoffs.”

Katie Svercheck finished with three goals for Arroyo Grande, Kelsy Hitchen added two and goalkeeper Kylie Anderson grabbed 10 saves.

San Luis Obispo 17, Pioneer Valley 6

Three players scored hat tricks for the Tigers as they clinched third place in the PAC 7 with their victory over the Panthers.

Elizabeth Waddell, Kacie Gin and Jocelyn Wensloff all scored three goals and Abby Hollister added two for San Luis Obispo (17-13, 8-4 PAC 7).

Righetti 8, Paso Robles 6

Erika Smeltzer led the Bearcats (9-14, 5-7 PAC 7) with three goals but it was not enough as they fell to the Warriors.

Smeltzer scored at the 5:23 mark of the fourth quarter to pull Paso Robles within 6-5.

But the Warriors responded with two quick goals and the Bearcats could not recover.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Nipomo 54, Lompoc 40

Tyler Eshenbach led the Titans with a game-high 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting to defeat the Braves in a Wednesday Los Padres League game.

Ryan McNeil added 14 and a game-high 17 rebounds for Nipomo.

Orcutt Academy 65, North County Christian 57

Daniel Katches had a game-high 24 points and 14 rebounds, but the Crusaders (10-12) lost at home in their regular-season finale.

Keelan Willison scored 13 points, Austin Wiemann had 11 points and five assists and Jonathan Katches grabbed 13 rebounds for North County Christian.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

North County Christian 49, Orcutt Academy 44

Brianna Feld scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Mandy Legault had 13 points, seven steals and four assists and the Crusaders (13-2) defeated the Spartans (11-7) at home in their regular-season finale.

GIRLS SOCCER

Cabrillo 3, Nipomo 1

After a first-half goal by Nipomo’s Christina Ozzimo, the Titans (12-7-2, 7-4-1 LPL) gave up three Cabrillo scores in the road loss. Nipomo goalkeeper Ebony Quarles made 15 saves.

Santa Ynez 2, Templeton 1, OT

The Pirates scored with 1:55 left in the second overtime period to down the Eagles.

After trailing 1-0, Kilee Davis tied the game for Templeton (5-5-2 LPL) in the second half to send the game into overtime.

BOYS SOCCER

Nipomo 2, Cabrillo 0

The Titans (13-9-3, 10-2-0 LPL) scored a pair of late-game goals to defeat the Conquistadores and share the LPL championship honors with Santa Ynez.

Caleb Doane scored first for Nipomo in the 60th minute and Kenny Cromer added to the Titans lead with another goal with eight minutes remaining.

Goalkeeper Erubey Ponce had 12 saves in his shutout performance for Nipomo.

Lompoc 2, Morro Bay 1, OT

Holt Alden Jr. tied the score at 1-1 in the second half, but the Pirates (8-13-2, 5-7 LPL) fell in overtime to the Braves.

Jeremy Nielson had 17 saves, and Oscar Leoza had seven saves for Morro Bay.
