Some 40 law enforcement and rescue personnel were called out to search for an Atascadero man who was reported missing Wednesday morning.
The Atascadero Police Department was notified around 10:40 a.m. that an elderly male living in the 9000 block of La Paz Road hadnt been heard from since 7:30 a.m. after leaving his home on foot.
When a search of the immediate area didnt yield results, the search was expanded into south Atascadero after calling in the Atascadero Fire Department, San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs Office, the San Obispo County Search and Rescue Team, the Atascadero State Hospital Police Department and the California Highway Patrol K-9 unit and Air Support Division.
As the search progressed, according to a news release from the Atascadero Police Department, the subject called his wifes cell phone to say he was at a business about five miles away from his home.
Authorities then contacted the man and gave him a ride back to his home.
