Sonja Jackson has opened Jackson’s Old & New in the previous Thrift Store building on 12th Street behind the Coffee Station. She has a very nice selection of clothing, furniture, gifts and accessories, and she makes gift baskets for all occasions. You are invited to come in and find your hidden treasure. The family of Fred Thacker wants to thank everyone who helped with and attended the celebration of his life at the Estrella Warbirds Museum on Saturday afternoon. A large crowd gathered to support family members, and they are grateful for all the great stories that were shared that day. Special thanks go to the Warbirds for the use of their facilities and for honoring Fred with a “missing man” flyover. He is missed.

First District Supervisor Frank Mecham held his first biannual meeting in San Miguel on Feb. 2 to assess the community’s needs. Those represented included the San Miguel CSD, the Sheriff’s Office, CHP, county planning staff, San Miguel Advisory Committee and San Miguel Resource Connection.

One of the main topics was crime and how to address it. Sheriff’s deputies stress that citizens be alert and call the department when problems occur. The department has a very large area to cover in the North County with just a few deputies, but those deputies seek to answer calls in a timely manner.

If you have a problem that is not a 911 emergency, you should call the Templeton sheriff’s substation at 434-4290 or the San Luis Obispo dispatch at 781-4550.

If the problem is traffic or vehicle-related, call the CHP in Templeton at 434-1822 or its San Luis Obispo headquarters at 593-3333.
